Meet Your Therapist

Hi, I’m David “Skip” Borghi, a Licensed Clinical Social Worker based in Rockford, Illinois.

I don’t define my clients by diagnoses, labels, or a list of problems. The people I work best with are those who may feel overwhelmed, frustrated, or even stuck—but are still willing to put in the effort to create real change. If you’re tired of struggling and ready for something different, you’re already taking an important first step.

My approach to therapy is grounded in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) with a strong emphasis on mindfulness. Together, we’ll explore your experiences on a deeper level, helping you better understand your thoughts, emotions, and patterns. From there, we work collaboratively to reduce automatic reactions like anger, fear, or defensiveness, and replace them with practical strategies you can use in everyday life.

I earned my degree from the University of Wisconsin–Madison, a university consistently ranked among the top in the nation. I have experience working with adults facing a wide range of challenges, including depression, anxiety, stress, bipolar disorder, PTSD, relationship concerns, and issues affecting young adults. I also recognize that mental health can show up differently for each person, including the ways men may experience and express emotional struggles.

One of the most important parts of my work is building a genuine connection with each person I meet. I take time to truly understand your perspective so we can uncover what’s behind your thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. With that understanding, many clients begin to feel a sense of clarity, hope, and relief—sometimes even after the first session.

Experience & Focus

I work with adults who are navigating anxiety, depression, stress, PTSD, bipolar disorder, relationship concerns, and life transitions. I also help young adults and individuals who may be struggling to understand or manage strong emotional responses.

My goal is to create a space where you feel supported, understood, and equipped with tools that can help you move forward in a healthier and more grounded way.
